You may want to check her closet and drawers for items you know she currently wears – take note of the sizes on the tags.  Plus size lingerie is typically sold as follows:  1X, 2X, 3X – One size fits most queen (Size 16-24) or 1X/2X, 3X/4X which means if she is a size 1X the size 1X/2X will fit.

An important note – how comfortable is your better half with his or her body?  If this is not a concern, than you are a lucky shopper as you can purchase anything without worrying about coverage.  On the other hand, if the gift you are buying is for someone who likes more coverage you might want to look into purchasing a chemise, or babydoll.  These items are usually a safe bet for women as you get more coverage in areas women like to conceal.
